Continuing to make it easier and more efficient to combine the rails and the
road,
Amtrak,
the U.S. national passenger railroad, and The
Hertz
Corporation (NYSE:HRZ), the world's largest car rental company, announce the
availability of car rental services at five new locations in the Northeast. With
the addition of Albany and New York, N.Y., Boston and Boston Back Bay, Mass.,
and Stamford, Conn., the total number of Amtrak stations with Hertz rental car
service increases to 31. (Please see attached list of participating locations
and service-levels provided.) In New York City and Stamford, the Hertz locations
are across the street from the stations. At the Albany, Boston, and Boston Back
Bay stations, customers take a taxi, for which they will be reimbursed, to a
nearby Hertz location.
"Through the addition of rental car services at these five stations, Amtrak and Hertz are providing a service our customers want, a more complete travel package,"said Barbara J. Richardson, executive vice president of Amtrak. "Through this partnership, our customers can make quick and convenient reservations and connections from the train to their rental car." Developed to capitalize upon the growing demand for car rental service at railroad stations, the Amtrak/Hertz partnership program offers customers, who book travel to any of the participating locations and, who express an interest in renting a vehicle, an automatic transfer to a Hertz reservationist, when calling Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL. Customers booking Hertz rental cars through Amtrak have enhanced access to Hertz services and are eligible for special Amtrak/Hertz rental rates.
"We're pleased to announce the continued expansion of our partnership with Amtrak," commented Pamela Wright, CTC, Division Vice President, Travel Industry Sales for The Hertz Corporation. "Customers have responded positively to the rail-drive services our partnership offers, and with the increase in rail travel through the Northeast corridor, the five new locations provide a great opportunity for the Hertz services."
Amtrak's Northeast routes now include its new Acela Regional service. This new, all-electric service operates between Boston and Washington, D.C. with major stops in Providence, R.I., New York City, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Del., and Baltimore.
