May 12--MONTGOMERY, W.Va.--U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd announced Thursday Amtrak will provide $100,000 for the construction of a new passenger shelter in Montgomery.

Byrd said, "This shelter will provide needed protection against inclement weather for passengers who ride the Amtrak Cardinal train from the Montgomery stop."

If all goes well, the new shelter could be built before winter begins, he said.

According to George D. Warrington, Amtrak's president and chief executive officer, Amtrak officials will contact Montgomery officials soon to review the plans for the new shelter.
