| GoodBye Vile Bridge: Painted as the bridge that was stopping the progress of a vast metroplex; causing flooding; and in general being a vile bridge - the CowSkin bridge will be demolished. The STB, KDOT, CKR, City of Wichita Kansas and a pen have done what over a hundred years of rain, storms and trains were unable to do - destroy it. Since KDOT feels that yet another ramp is needed in the growing metropolis of Wichita Kansas, along with the abandoning of the line by the CKR - there is no future for the bridge or the other 18 miles of rail line that is attached. KDOT paid 3 times the amount of what the entire of line was purchased for by CKR , in order to have the 16 miles of lines removed. Click here to read the STB's final approval to abandon. |
Despite the efforts of potential shippers, the City of Kingman, Seth Hostler, Jim Irlandi, Jean Lamb and host of others - the direct line from Kingman to Wichita is to removed (from Garden Plains to Wichita). In a time where even medium size metropolitan size areas are considering using light rail and/or existing rail lines - rail lines are still being abandon at the average rate of 200 miles per month.
