Snow in Buffalo, New York
December 27, 2001

A continuing pattern of lake-effect snow off of Lake Erie is impacting
Norfolk Southern operations in the Buffalo metro area.  Following heavy
accumulations on Christmas Eve, the latest snow event has dropped nearly a foot of snow.  By early Friday it is expected that another 2 feet may have
fallen in addition to the snowfall on Christmas Eve.  The weather pattern is
expected to continue into early next week.

Norfolk Southern operations continue, but are slow.  To the extent possible, traffic normally moving through this area is being redirected to other routes.  Customers with shipments moving to, from, or through the Buffalo area should expect delays of about 48 hours.
